A Series of Decisions on Kairas #1

How do you stop being a thief? Zizy assumed quitting her job, stealing from her boss, and flitting magically across the continent was one way to give it a go.

Getting in and out of sticky situations is typically Zizy’s specialty. A little spellwork here, a pinch of deception there, and she’s home free. Quick-fingered, fast-talking, and charming the gnome knows traveling across a shattered continent won’t be easy. Still, she has the skills to keep herself from getting killed.

GUEST POST BY D. HALE RAMBO

Hail Adventurers!

Welcome to a shattered world. A burgeoning place of diverse people, opposing magic, and unexplored nooks await. All left behind by deities who did not want to go. This is Kairas. The backdrop to the adventures of Zizy, a gnome trying to find a new path for herself and those she meets along the way.

Deities have always been fascinating to me. Gods and goddesses of Greek and Egyptian mythology have love affairs, fights, and meddle overtly in their follower’s life. Zizy’s Kairas is a world where the destructive and powerful pantheon of divinity is becoming a hazy memory. Banished at the climax of a war between themselves and those that rejected them, the Divine Consul was sealed away and walk throughout the land no more.

But that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped interfering. Even exiled, the deities of Kairas continue to have an impressive impact on those who remember them, worship them, or look up to them. Their presence is felt through the weak magic Orisons rely on them to bestow through the Seal. It is also underlying in the commands various world leaders on the three broken continents give to their populace. Even Casters, those who practice magic through sigils with components, aren’t entirely free from deities remaining tethers in the world.

Why A Series of Decisions?

Decisions are how we move forward. You can make them willy nilly, and it cascades across your life without purpose. Alternatively, thinking through a decision and understanding the weight of it can give it direction. The idea for Tools of a Thief (and the series as a whole) is to showcase how deity decisions impacted the left behind. People such as Zizy (to who the idea of a meddling god is mythical almost) all the way to the remaining few who remember what it was like to walk and talk with their chosen deity. An exploration of power through the eyes of a new group of adventurers trying to find their place in a broken world.
