Mad Max meets Sense8 in this fast-paced, philosophical science-fiction novel of reunion and redemption, among lovers, enemies, and a greater consciousness. Breakout author Elly Bangs has delivered a timely, unforgettable look at the juncture of climate change and posthuman evolution: gritty, inventive, and ultimately hopeful.
Danae is haunted by a grief that cannot be contained in a single body. But it also cannot be returned to the larger gestalt of consciousness to which she once belonged.
Unable to tolerate being separated from her full self anymore, Danae has narrowly escaped the implosion of Bloom City to journey to the surface with her lover and fellow tech servant, Naoto. They are aided in their escape by the mysterious Alexei, an ex-mercenary with a death wish, and unable to kill after a disturbing vision.
But going home is even more difficult than expected, as they flee across the harsh, otherworldly beauty of a postapocalyptic American Southwest. An old stalker has picked up Danae's trail, and a new foe has put a bounty on her head. And unbeknownst to anyone, Danae, Alexi, and Naoto are creating a unity, hurtling them towards a new understanding.
