Dead Deep is a one off short story written exclusively for World Book Day in 2007.
The action takes place between the end of Vampirates: Demons of the Ocean and the beginning of Vampirates: Tide of Terror when Connor and his new pirate buddies Bart and Jez have their first bit of shore leave but soon find them selves in deadly deep water.
When Connor Tempest and his swashbuckling pirate buddies get a rare break in their duties, they're in the mood for fun, sun and adventure. A chance meeting with the crew of The Lorelei seems to offer all that and more. Soon, Connor and co are learning to freedive into the amazing world far beneath the ocean's surface. But the pirates are further out of their depth than they realise. Under the water, danger is lurking – and it's going to take everything they've got to get out alive...
Justin Somper has been writing stories and scripts for as long as he can remember. He worked in the editorial and marketing departments of various UK children's publishers before establishing his own children's creative consultancy, where his clients include the Roald Dahl Literary Estate and a number of major UK publishers. Justin took swordfighting classes to help him write the fight scenes in Vampirates.
