Patrick Rothfuss has previously stated that he has a clear vision for the end of the series and has hinted at the possibility of more books in the future. This suggests that he has plans to continue the series beyond The Doors of Stone.

The Kingkiller Chronicle trilogy is told through a series of flashbacks as Kvothe recounts his life story to a Chronicler. The series takes the reader on a journey through Kvothe's childhood as an orphan, his time at the University where he learns magic and becomes an arcanist, and his adventures as a young man in a dangerous and unpredictable world. We only get a little information about the present moment, so what happens when Kvothe's story comes to an end ...
