A REVIEW OF RAMSEY CAMPBELL'S THE RENDER OF THE VEILS

The Render of the Veils is taken from the forthcoming special edition of The Inhabitant of the Lake & Other Unwelcome Tenants. It will be released in the spring of 2011 by PS Publishing.

After reading The Render of the Veils I can say that I will definitely buy The Inhabitant of the Lake & Other Unwelcome Tenants. If all the other stories are as good as this one, it'll be worth buying. This special edition will feature all the original stories of the 1964 edition and lots of unpublished material.

Here's a few words about the story:

Kevin Gillson meets a stranger called Henry Fisher, who's an occultist. They begin to talk about occult things and soon they arrive at Fisher's house. Gillson is intrigued by Fisher's promise to show him what things really look like and they call on Daoloth's aid to see beyond the veils (Daoloth is an alien god, who was worshipped in Atlantis). That's all I'll write about the story, because I don't want to spoil anybody's reading pleasure by revealing too many things.

The Render of the Veils is a short Lovecraftian masterpiece (I've always been a big fan of H. P. Lovecraft, so I have to confess that I loved this story.). It features occultism, unholy rites and insanity, so every Lovecraft fan will be thrilled to read it. I'm sure that everybody who likes Lovecraft's stories will be fascinated by this story and its strangeness.

The introduction by Ramsey Campbell was interesting. It was fascinating to read about how the story was published.
