Krysten Ritter’s career is proof that the brightest stars often have more than one light to shine. Known for her captivating roles in Jessica Jones and Breaking Bad, she’s built a reputation as a fierce talent on screen. But when she stepped into the world of writing, it became clear that her creative prowess wasn’t confined to acting alone. As an author, Ritter has proven that her storytelling extends beyond the visual, into the dark, thrilling corners of psychological suspense.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Krysten’s early life was steeped in a love for the arts, a passion that followed her to New York City where she began her career as a model before landing acting roles that would eventually take her to Hollywood. But long before her television breakthrough, Ritter was scribbling stories and exploring the darker side of human nature through writing. After years of working in film and television, she turned her attention to novels, revealing a different, yet equally captivating, side of herself.
In 2017, Ritter released Bonfire, her debut novel that blends mystery, psychological drama, and small-town secrets with the same intensity she’s known for onscreen. The book follows Abby Williams, a corporate lawyer who returns to her hometown to investigate a decades-old environmental scandal—and in doing so, uncovers a tangle of personal and professional mysteries. With Bonfire, Ritter introduced readers to her talent for crafting deeply flawed, yet relatable characters, while building tension that keeps you on edge. The novel earned praise for its atmospheric suspense and sharp writing, a reflection of the same raw energy that fuels her acting.
Since Bonfire, Krysten has expanded her reach as a writer with the release of Retreat (2025), a suspenseful tale that takes on themes of identity, obsession, and deception. In Retreat, Liz Dawson, a con artist, gets entangled in a web of mistaken identity and dangerous intrigue when she’s sent to a luxurious villa in Mexico to prepare it for a wealthy client. As Liz grapples with lies, manipulation, and betrayal, Ritter weaves a darkly thrilling narrative that continues her exploration of human complexity and the consequences of our actions.
Krysten’s writing reflects much of what her fans admire about her onscreen work: an ability to dig into the messy, emotional layers of her characters and bring them to life in vivid, sometimes unsettling ways. Her prose isn’t just about solving a mystery—it’s about peeling back the layers of our own humanity. She thrives in spaces where tension runs high and the truth is often more complicated than it seems.
When she’s not writing or acting, Krysten continues to evolve as a creator, recently starring in the Orphan Black spinoff Orphan Black: Echoes and taking on roles in Love & Death, a true-crime series based on the story of Candy Montgomery. With each project, whether on the page or screen, Ritter proves she’s a force to be reckoned with—someone whose talents reach far beyond the limits of genre and media.
In every book, every role, Krysten Ritter tells stories that matter. Through sharp, evocative writing and unforgettable characters, she has earned her place as a storyteller who commands your attention, not just through the screen, but through the pages as well.
