The Waterborn

BOOK REVIEW

The Waterborn

Greg Keyes

8/10Written Jan 6, 2008Edited Jan 6, 2008

The Waterborn is a great fantasy book for adults. When I read The Waterborn, I was surprised how well it was created and written. It felt like a breath of fresh air, which was very nice.

The plot was good, the characters were interesting and there was enough depth. I think that Greg Keyes knows how to write about certain things (culture etc.) and he has a talent for charming his readers with his writing.

I think that The Waterborn is adult fantasy at its best. If you're interested in a not so typical fantasy book, you must read The Waterborn.

Rise of the Blood Royal

BOOK REVIEW

Rise of the Blood Royal

Robert Newcomb

6/10Written Dec 25, 2007Edited Dec 25, 2007

Rise of the Blood Royal is the third book of The Destinies of Blood and Stone trilogy.

I enjoyed reading Rise of the Blood Royal. It was a fascinating and well written fantasy book. I liked this book very much.

I know that Robert Newcomb isn't George R.R. Martin, Robin Hobb or Steven Erikson, but his books are entertaining and they've been written for adults. It's very nice to read entertaining fantasy.

If you've read the previous books, I'm sure that you'll like this book.

Winterbirth

BOOK REVIEW

Winterbirth

Brian Ruckley

8/10Written Dec 10, 2007Edited Feb 18, 2008

Winterbirth is an interesting and fascinating debut fantasy book. It's not a perfect fantasy book, but it's much better than certain new books.

In my opinion Winterbirth has potential, so it's interesting to see how Brian Ruckley manages to develop as a writer. I'm looking forward to reading his next book.

If you like good adult fantasy stories, Winterbirth will probably be of interest to you. Brian Ruckley can't be compared to George R.R. Martin, but fans of A Song of Ice and Fire might like this book.

Once a Hero

BOOK REVIEW

Once a Hero

Michael A. Stackpole

6/10Written Dec 6, 2007

I found Once a Hero by accident from a small bookshop. I had no idea what kind of a book it was, because I hadn't read any reviews about it. Fortunately it turned out to be a good and entertaining book.

Once a Hero is an interesting stand-alone fantasy book. I'm not saying that this book is perfect, but it's good entertainment and it offers great escapism.

Once a Hero is probably the best book that Michael A. Stackpole has written.

Exile's Return

BOOK REVIEW

Exile's Return

Raymond E. Feist

6/10Written Dec 5, 2007

Exile's Return is the third book of The Conclave of Shadows trilogy.

In my opinion Exile's Return is average fantasy, but it's a readable book. I expected it to be better, so I was a bit disappointed with it.

I can recommend this book to Feist fans. If you've read Feist's books, you'll probably like this book.

King of Foxes

BOOK REVIEW

King of Foxes

Raymond E. Feist

6/10Written Dec 5, 2007

King of Foxes is the second book of The Conclave of Shadows trilogy.

King of Foxes is a nice fantasy book, but unfortunately it isn't classic Feist. Don't get me wrong - it's a good book, but it's just not as enjoyable as Feist's earlier Midkemia books.

If you're a fan of Feist, you'll probably like this book.

Talon of the Silver Hawk

BOOK REVIEW

Talon of the Silver Hawk

Raymond E. Feist

6/10Written Dec 5, 2007Edited Dec 5, 2007

Talon of the Silver Hawk is the first book of The Conclave of Shadows trilogy.

In my opinion Talon of the Silver Hawk is a readable fantasy book. It's not the best Midkemia book, but it's better than the some of the recent Midkemia books, which is nice.

I can recommend this book to Feist fans. Other fantasy readers may also enjoy this book. By the way, it would be a good idea to read the previous books before reading this book.

Into a Dark Realm

BOOK REVIEW

Into a Dark Realm

Raymond E. Feist

6/10Written Dec 3, 2007

Into a Dark Realm is a readable fantasy book and you may either love or hate it depending on how you feel about Feist's Midkemia books.

I liked this book, but I have to say that it's not the best Midkemia book. Whenever I've read a new Midkemia book, I've had high expectations that Feist would finally come up with something as good and entertaining as Magician or Silverthorn, but he never does.

If you're a fan of Raymond E. Feist and like his fantasy books, you'll probably find this book interesting.

Flight of the Nighthawks

BOOK REVIEW

Flight of the Nighthawks

Raymond E. Feist

6/10Written Dec 3, 2007

Many people have said that Flight of the Nighthawks is classic Feist, but I have to disagree with them.

Flight of the Nighthawks is a nice and readable fantasy book and it features some familiar characters, but it's just not as good as Magician or Silverthorn, which is one of the best Midkemia books I've read.

If you like Feist's books, you'll probably enjoy reading this book.

Renegade's Magic

BOOK REVIEW

Renegade's Magic

Robin Hobb

10/10Written Nov 26, 2007

Renegade's Magic is the third book of The Soldier Son Trilogy.

Renegade's Magic is a good, interesting and well written conclusion to The Soldier Son Trilogy. Robin Hobb has written an excellent fantasy book, which I can recommend to all fantasy lovers.

If you like Robin Hobb's books, you should read this book (and the previous books too). You'll love this book.

Forest Mage

BOOK REVIEW

Forest Mage

Robin Hobb

10/10Written Nov 26, 2007

Forest Mage is the second book of The Soldier Son Trilogy.

I love this book. This book has everything I want from good fantasy - it has depth, it's dark and it's fascinating. Robin Hobb sure knows how to write great fantasy books for adults.

If you enjoyed reading Shaman's Crossing, you must read Forest Mage. Forest Mage is much better than Shaman's Crossing. You won't be disappointed with this book.

Shaman's Crossing

Shaman's Crossing is an excellent fantasy book. It's well written, interesting and fascinating.
