Blood and Gold

BOOK REVIEW

Blood and Gold

Anne Rice

2/10Written Nov 17, 2007Edited Nov 17, 2007

Blood and Gold is an extremely bad horror and dark fantasy book.

The deterioration of The Vampire Chronicles is a good example of what happens when a writer tries to please fans by writing more books when all the exciting and new ideas have run out.

I only read this book, because I wanted to read the whole series. Otherwise I wouldn't have read it.

If you liked Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned, you should avoid this book. You'll only be disappointed, if you try to read it.

Blood Canticle

BOOK REVIEW

Blood Canticle

Anne Rice

2/10Written Nov 17, 2007

Blood Canticle is the last vampire book, which is a good thing, because almost all the books since The Queen of the Damned have been more or less bad and disappointing books.

Blood Canticle is a bad book and I can't recommend it to anybody. You shouldn't read this book, so try to avoid it.

Blackwood Farm

BOOK REVIEW

Blackwood Farm

Anne Rice

4/10Written Nov 17, 2007

Blackwood Farm is a bit better horror and dark fantasy book than some of the other vampire books Anne Rice has written after The Queen of the Damned.

If you're expecting this book to be as interesting and excellent as the first vampire books, you'll be disappointed. This book is a good try, but it's just not good enough.

The Tale of the Body Thief

BOOK REVIEW

The Tale of the Body Thief

Anne Rice

6/10Written Nov 17, 2007Edited Apr 14, 2010

It's a shame that the quality of The Vampire Chronicles began to drop with this book. This book isn't as good as Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat or The Queen of the Damned.

You may enjoy reading this book, but you should know that it isn't very good. It's readable and well written, but not excellent. If you're expecting it to be as good as the previous books, you'll probably be a bit disappointed.

Memnoch the Devil

BOOK REVIEW

Memnoch the Devil

Anne Rice

2/10Written Nov 17, 2007Edited Apr 14, 2010

I didn't like this book at all. This book was a big disappointment to me, because I expected it to be as good as the first books.

In my opinion Anne Rice should never have written this book, because it contains too much religious and philosophical nonsense. In my opinion this book is as bad as Terry Goodkind's Naked Empire.

If you've enjoyed reading the first three books (and even the fourth book), this fifth book may be a big disappointment. You should avoid this book, because it's quite bad.

Yvgenie

BOOK REVIEW

Yvgenie

C. J. Cherryh

10/10Written Nov 17, 2007

Yvgenie is the third and last book of The Russian Stories trilogy.

I liked Yvgenie very much. It's an interesting ending to a good fantasy trilogy.

Yvgenie is a good and fascinating fantasy book. I can highly recommend this book to all fantasy readers, who like good stories and fairy tales.

Chernevog

BOOK REVIEW

Chernevog

C. J. Cherryh

10/10Written Nov 17, 2007

Chernevog is the second book of The Russian Stories trilogy.

Chernevog is a unique fantasy book, because there aren't many fantasy books, which are based on Russian folklore.

If you want to read something different, I can recommend this book to you. It's a good book and it's worth reading.

Rusalka

Rusalka is the first book of The Russian Stories trilogy.

The Pastel City

BOOK REVIEW

The Pastel City

M. John Harrison

6/10Written Nov 17, 2007

The Pastel City is an interesting, entertaining and readable science fiction book. I liked it, but it was perhaps a bit too simple.

Although this book is a classic science fiction book, it's not as good as some similar books, but it's still worth reading.

The Anvil of Ice

BOOK REVIEW

The Anvil of Ice

Michael Scott Rohan

8/10Written Nov 14, 2007Edited Nov 14, 2007

The Anvil of Ice is the first book of Winter of the World series.

This book was recommended to me a couple of years ago, so I bought the whole series. It was a good purchase.

I liked The Anvil of Ice. This book isn't quite as good as some of the fantasy books I've read, but it's interesting and entertaining.

Eldest

BOOK REVIEW

Eldest

Christopher Paolini

4/10Written Nov 14, 2007Edited Dec 23, 2007

Eldest is the second book of the Inheritance series.

Eldest isn't a special book. It's a bit predictable and flat, but I've read plenty of worse fantasy books, so I decided to give this book two stars.

If you're expecting an intelligent and interesting story, you'll be disappointed, because you won't find depth in this book. But if you're looking for light and average fantasy, this book is a good choice.

Nightchild

BOOK REVIEW

Nightchild

James Barclay

6/10Written Nov 14, 2007

Nightchild is the third book of the Chronicles of The Raven trilogy.

Nightchild is the best book of this trilogy. It's much better than the two previous books. Nightchild isn't perfect and James Barclay isn't Robin Hobb or George R.R. Martin, but Nightchild is good fantasy.
