Sean Oswald’s path to becoming an author is anything but ordinary, shaped by experiences as diverse as serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, working at an orphanage in India, and navigating the world of law before embracing his true passion—writing stories.
Born with a curiosity about the world and an insatiable need for adventure, Sean’s early years were filled with big dreams and even bigger questions. After high school, he joined the USMC, where he learned lessons in discipline, teamwork, and resilience that would later shape the characters and worlds he creates. His next move took him to the classroom, where he earned a degree in ancient languages, setting him on a path that would enrich his writing with deeper layers of history, myth, and mystery.
But it wasn’t all textbooks and military strategy. Sean and his wife dedicated several years to serving in India, working with orphaned children in an experience that brought both challenges and profound personal growth. These years abroad taught him empathy, perseverance, and a firsthand understanding of the human condition—insights that color his writing to this day.
Back in the U.S., Sean briefly dipped his toes in the legal world, working as an attorney. But the pull of storytelling was strong. After trading in his business cards for a pen, he began channeling his unique life experiences into fiction, creating stories that transport readers to new worlds, much like his own journey had transported him.
Now living in central Illinois with his wife, nine children, and a growing number of grandchildren, Sean’s life continues to be full of energy, chaos, and love. It’s no surprise that family, relationships, and the complexities of human connection are core themes in his work. Whether he’s navigating a multiverse of fantastical worlds or diving into the depths of human emotion, Sean’s stories are grounded in the idea that every journey—no matter how strange—leads us to discover something about ourselves.
When he’s not writing, you can find Sean enjoying time with his family, playing with his kids, or fighting the eternal battle of moving furniture for his wife. But no matter what else he’s doing, he’s always dreaming up his next big story.
