Jennifer Marie Brissett
Jennifer Marie Brissett is a writer, an artist, a former bookstore owner, and a former web developer. She is British-Jamaican American (born in London, England), and immigrated to the US when she was about four and grew up in Cambridge, MA. In her late 20s she moved to Brooklyn, NY and for three and a half years, she owned and ran the indie bookstore, Indigo Café & Books.
She has a Master's in Creative Writing from the Stonecoast MFA Program at the University of Southern Maine concentrating in Speculative Fiction and a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Engineering (Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Visual Art) from Boston University.
Her short stories have been included in The Best of Halfway Down the Stairs, 2005-2010, and a finalist for the 2013 storySouth Million Writers Award. Her debut novel Elysium, published by Aqueduct Press, received the 2014 Philip K. Dick Award Special Citation, been finalist for the 2015 Locus Award for Best First Novel, and placed on the Honor List for the Tiptree Award.
