THE DRAGON LORD

When Rohan became the new prince of the Desert, ruler of the kingdom granted his family for as long as the Long Sands spewed fire, he took the crown with two goals in mind. First and foremost, he sought to bring permanent peace to his world of divided princedoms, realms hovering always on the brink of war. And, in a land where dragon-slaying was a proof of manhood, Rohan was the sole champion of the dragons, fighting desperately to preserve the last remaining lords of the sky and with them a secret which might be the salvation of his people...

AND HIS SUNRUNNER WITCH -

Sioned, who was fated by Fire to be Rohan's bride, had mastered the magic of sunlight and moonglow, catching hints of a yet to be formed pattern which could irrevocably affect the destinies of Sunrunners and ordinary mortals alike. Yet caught in the machinations of the Lady of Goddess Keep, and of Prince Rohan and his sword enemy, the treacherously cunning High Prince, could Sioned alter this crucial pattern to protect her lord from the menace of a war that threatened to set the land ablaze?

Rawn’s work is often noted for its focus on the human side of fantasy—she is less interested in epic battles between good and evil and more invested in the morally complex and richly textured lives of her characters. Her works offer layers of complexity, from personal journeys of growth to intricate political dynamics. Rawn weaves magic seamlessly into her stories, making it as much a part of the characters' everyday lives as their emotions and decisions. It’s this ability to marry character development with world-building that has helped her maintain a loyal fanbase over the years.

Though her books have been praised for their epic scope and ambition, it’s Rawn’s delicate balance between intimate personal stakes and grand, overarching plots that keeps her readers coming back. Whether exploring the struggles of a mage learning to control powerful abilities or a kingdom on the brink of war, her storytelling is rich with a sense of history and depth that makes her fantasy worlds feel incredibly real.

With works that continue to inspire both new and long-time fantasy readers, Melanie Rawn remains a beloved figure in speculative fiction. Whether you’re discovering her worlds for the first time or revisiting them, her stories promise to be just as captivating as they were when they first entered the fantasy landscape.
