The Siege of Arrandin
Beset by invasion from the east, the Lautun Empire struggles to bury its own religious conflicts and throw back the barbarian hordes. High Councillor Rhysana and her fellow Magi, followers of the elder gods of the Aeshtar, must hold the strategic city of Arrandin, until help arrives from the Emperor Rhydden and the armies of the newer Vashta faith.
In Arrandin, Rhysana attempts to waken ancient magical defences, but discovers that even the Magi are not immune to treachery, and a darker threat lies behind the invasion. Meanwhile the Southern empire sees rich pickings to be had from the coming war, and the young lord Kellarn falls prey to their advancing fleet.
Marcus Herniman has written a sweeping novel of magic and war, in which every taste, sight and feeling is as vivid as an Old Master. He has already become a name to search out on the world's bookshelves.
