Kyra was a journeyman wizard, readying for her final testing before the Council. But it was no mere case of nerves that had started twisting her magic. Something sinister was weaving portents of doom into even the simplest of her spells. Something fearful was invading her dreams with images of frightful evil. And Kyra woke to the chill certainty that her young sister Alix was soon to marry – and soon to die.

So Kyra departed the Citadel of Wizards before she could win a place among her peers, to face the family that had disowned her, long years before.
