Fifteen-year-old Adam Schilling lives in the semi-remote world of rural South Australia. A seemingly idyllic environment for a boy growing up‚ but one where violence and drugs lie just beneath the surface.

When Adam and his friends reject the offers of the local drug pusher at school‚ they find themselves the victims of ugly reprisals. Matters then become even more complicated for Adam when he falls in love with the unhappy and troubled sister of the drug pusher. When Adam discovers the physical abuse that this girl has to endure‚ his understanding of life and people takes on a new meaning.

The worlds of the drug pushers and Adam eventually collide and matters come to a head. Adam and his friends undertake a daring raid in which someone is wounded‚ someone is captured and someone is rescued by Adam himself.
