This avant-garde anthology presents and defines the New Weird — a hip, stylistic fiction that evokes the gritty exuberance of pulp novels and dime-store comic books. Assembling an array of preeminent talent, there are contributions from visionaries Michael Moorcock and China Miéville, modern icon Clive Barker, and audacious emerging talents such as Jeffrey Ford and Sarah Monette. The experienced editing duo of Ann and Jeff VanderMeer take the essential snapshot of The New Weird, adding critical writings from authors, theorists, and international editors as well as witty selections from online debates.

Ann VanderMeer is the award-winning publisher and editor of Buzzcity Press. Jeff VanderMeer is the coeditor of The Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric and Discredited Diseases and the founder and coeditor of the Ministry of Whimsy Press. He is a two-time winner of the World Fantasy Award and a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award, the British Fantasy Award, the Hugo Award, and the International Horror Guild Award. The VanderMeers live in Tallahassee, Florida.
