About the book

Dreamer

Jennie Height's dreaming is so akin to her waking reality that she makes no effort to distinguish between the two. Her life is often stranger than her dreams in any event. She has learned when to stay, when to leave; who to recognize, who to avoid – and as a survival mechanism for an unobtrusive young woman in the last city on a mad and dying world, it is flawless.

Her lover, Walter Vellum, runs the Sector 12 Grille, imagines himself the champion of the common man, even though his background is one of privilege. He is also the leader of a resistance cell – but something is very wrong in the resistance, as the missions he undertakes are all ending in disaster. Jennie's timely warnings – snatches of her dreams which she shares with him – save his rag-tag band again and again, while Walter wonders if she even remembers warning him, until the day she simply vanishes.

Carpathia Coyle, an empathic adept, also comes from the privileged elite. She has chosen a life of service within the Archives, the ultimate seat of knowledge. But her personal connection to the mysterious leader of the resistance soon dangerously compromises her when she becomes Jennie's teacher as well as Walter's immediate superior and lover.

Jennie learns at an astounding rate, yet cannot face the horrific event that shaped her life; while the power she attempts to conceal from Carpathia grows exponentially. Walter takes matters into his own hands, rises through the ranks of the resistance, at the cost of his ideals. When Chairmain Void, the ruler of the city, seeks immortality, all of them are called upon to either aid or destroy the tyrant who has fashioned every aspect of their world. Their choices will decide if the Earth survives, and at what cost.
