The Water Horse was adapted into a film in 2007 (IMDB link).

When a storm washes up a strange pod-like object on the seashore, Kirstie decides to take it home and put it in the bath. The next day it hatches into a tiny green-grey creature, with a horse's head, a warty skin, four flippers and a crocodile's tail.

Dick King-Smith

Ronald Gordon King-Smith OBE (born 1922), better known by his pen name Dick King-Smith, is a prolific English children's author, best known for writing The Sheep-Pig, retitled in the US as Babe the Gallant Pig, upon which the movie Babe was based. He was a soldier in World War II and a farmer for 20 years before he became a teacher and author. Many of his books feature animals.

Dick King-Smith's first book was The Fox Busters, published in 1978. He is one of the UK's most prolific authors and has written over a hundred books, which have sold over translated into twelve languages. He is now living in Queen Charlton, a small farming village near Bristol and contributes to this cherished landscape through his work as the vice-president of the Avon Wildlife Trust.
