Redemption isn’t a word Jim Heron knows much about — his specialty, both personally and professionally, is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. His weapon: the power of love. His enemy: the darkest of evil. And failure is not an option.

Vincent Di Pietro has surrendered himself to his business — until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking, Harley-riding, self-professed savior, and a woman who will make him question his destiny. With an ancient evil ready to claim him, Vin has to work with a fallen angel not only to win his beloved over... but to redeem his very soul.

J. R. Ward

J. R. Ward

Some writers create worlds; J. R. Ward builds empires of shadow and desire, where immortal warriors fight for love as fiercely as they battle their enemies. Best known for her Black Dagger Brotherhood series, Ward has transformed paranormal romance into something more—a pulse-pounding blend of dark fantasy, sizzling passion, and deeply human struggles, all wrapped in her unmistakable, razor-sharp prose.

Born Jessica Rowley Pell Bird, Ward was drawn to storytelling from an early age, her imagination fueled by gothic literature, sweeping epics, and the kind of brooding, tormented heroes that now dominate her books. Though she originally pursued a career in law, the call of fiction was irresistible. It wasn’t long before she abandoned legal briefs for manuscripts, pouring her love of complex characters and high-stakes drama into every page.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood series, which began with Dark Lover in 2005, didn’t just find an audience—it ignited a fandom. Readers were immediately drawn to her world of powerful yet wounded vampire warriors, each haunted by their past and bound by an unbreakable brotherhood. With its blend of raw emotion, high-octane action, and scorching romance, the series redefined the genre, influencing countless authors and setting a new standard for paranormal storytelling.

Beyond vampires, Ward has explored a spectrum of dark and addictive narratives, from the gritty Bourbon Kings trilogy to her compelling spin-off, the Black Dagger Legacy. Each book crackles with her signature intensity, where love is always hard-won and danger lurks at every turn. Her work has earned a place on The New York Times bestseller list multiple times, a testament to her ability to craft stories that sink deep into readers' souls.

Ward, who writes with a near-religious discipline, often describes her creative process as an obsession. “I don’t create these stories; they take over,” she has admitted in interviews. This relentless drive is evident in the depth of her world-building and the intensity of her characters—every flaw, every scar, every whispered vow feels lived-in, as if her warriors and heroines are more than fiction; they are legend.

Despite the darkness in her books, there is always light—love that endures against impossible odds, brotherhood stronger than blood, and the promise that even the most broken can find redemption. With each novel, Ward continues to prove that romance can be just as thrilling, just as harrowing, and just as unforgettable as the greatest of epics.

For those who crave stories where passion is as dangerous as the battles fought, where loyalty is a force stronger than fate, and where love demands everything—J. R. Ward remains the undisputed queen of the genre.

Book review: 3 Treasure Boxes Earth is the playing field and the game is a never ending struggle of good versus evil between the demons and the angels; using human souls to determine the score. The weight of each person’s soul is measured by the moral value of his deeds. But now the two teams have decided to put all their money on one player; one person who’s responsible to save seven souls balanced on a knife edge between good and evil. If he can help them all move up onto the side of good, then humanity wins and the demons will be banished forever. Covet is the first battle and it all rests on the shoulders of Jim Heron. J.R. Ward is the pen name of Jessica Bird and she uses it for the paranormal romance novels that she has written. These include the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the Fallen Angel series. There are currently four books in the Fallen Angel series and book five is expected to be released in September 2012. These books are told in a third person narrative alternating the point of view between several of the characters, but primarily from the point of view of the main protagonist Jim Heron. The Fallen Angel series is an interesting concept with a unique twist on good against evil. Ms. Ward gave us a good insight into who the three main characters are, and she did good job a showing us why they would be motivated to act and respond the way that they did. I liked the world that she creates, although I myself do not buy into the idea that it is up to one man to influence the balance between good and evil in the world. I also do not buy that there is such a fine line between good and evil, but leaving that aside, the concept was well thought out and presented. This is a standalone story, and it leads really nicely into the next book in the series. I recommend this book as a good read, and I am interested to see where the story is going so I am probably going to read the next book in the series, Crave.
