THE DEMON WAR

The stuff of legends.

Rupert didn't especially want to be a prince. And he certainly never asked to be the second son of a royal line that really didn't need a spare. After all, a kingdom suffering from financial setbacks couldn't afford to have factions fighting over who was more worthy to rule as the next king. So Rupert was sent out to slay a dragon and prove himself – a quest straight out of legends. But he also discovered the kind of things legends didn't tell, as well as the usual demons, goblins, the Night Witch – even the terrors hidden in the Darkwood. Rupert found his dragon and a princess to rescue, too. But the dragon turned out to be a better friend than anyone back at the castle. And with the Darkwood suddenly spreading its evil... with the blue moon rising and the Wild Magic along with it, Rupert was going to need all the friends he could get...

Simon R. Green

Simon R. Green

Simon R. Green writes like someone with one foot in the shadows and the other in a cosmic madhouse—blending noir, fantasy, and science fiction in ways that defy neat categorization. Whether he's guiding readers through the eerie alleyways of the Nightside, a city where it’s always 3 a.m. and miracles cost extra, or unleashing chaos in the multiverse with the Deathstalker saga, Green never settles for the expected. His stories are darkly funny, unabashedly strange, and full of sharp edges hidden beneath layers of magic and menace.

Born in Bradford-on-Avon, England, Green grew up with a fondness for the strange and supernatural. That affinity for the weird never faded—it just evolved. After studying modern English and American literature, he dove headfirst into writing, and hasn’t come up for air since. Early on, he worked behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, including writing a novelization for the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves film, but it’s his original worlds where his voice truly comes alive.

Green's signature style—dry wit, cinematic action, and a relentless drive to upend genre tropes—has earned him a loyal following over the decades. His protagonists rarely fit the mold of the classic hero; they’re more likely to carry hidden weapons, emotional scars, and a deep mistrust of authority. The Secret Histories series, following the James Bond-meets-occult operative Eddie Drood, is a perfect example: espionage meets eldritch horror, wrapped in swagger and sarcasm.

Across more than 50 novels, Green has built a literary multiverse where urban fantasy, science fiction, and supernatural thrillers collide, often with blood on the walls and a knowing smirk. He doesn’t just tell stories—he breaks them open, letting all the strange and dangerous things spill out.

For readers who crave genre fiction with teeth—and maybe a trench coat or two stained with otherworldly ichor—his work remains a gateway to the delightfully bizarre.
