A killer adventure fantasy follow-up to HOPE & RED, set in a fracturing empire spread across savage seas, where two young people from different cultures find common purpose.

With New Laven as her base of operations, Hope terrorizes imperial ships as the pirate Dire Bane. Her fame spreads throughout and many who are dissatisfied with the emperor and his biomancers flock to her banner.

Red struggles to keep his sanity as the biomancers try to turn him into a cold blooded assassin. He finds comfort in palace politics and befriends the son of the emperor and an ambassador from Aukbontar, a country located across the Dark Sea. The new Grandteacher of the Vinchen has joined with the biomancers and they have a common enemy: Hope.
