True North (The Dragon and the Girl #1) by Laura Findley Evans
Unrated

THE LAST DRAGONS IN THE KINGDOM WERE KILLED A HALF CENTURY AGO.

At least that’s what twelve-year-old Eliana has grown up hearing. Imagine her surprise when one morning in the forest she finds herself eye to eye with a young dragon. When she learns the dragon’s father has been missing since the last full moon, she vows to help.

Together, they seek the King for guidance, but upon reaching the castle they realize the short, frazzled King has problems of his own. The kingdom’s treasure is missing and the tribute to the Overking is due in a few short weeks. If the King doesn’t pay, he will lose his kingdom to the Overking’s feckless nephew.

The dragon and the girl must discover courage—sprinkled with magic—to find what is lost before the kingdom falls into the wrong hands, and people and dragons perish forever.

The Dragon and the Girl

In the world of The Dragon and the Girl, magic is real, and dragons—believed to be long extinct—are very much alive. The series follows twelve-year-old Eliana Fallond, an ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances when she discovers her unique ability to communicate with these mythical creatures. What begins as a chance encounter with Winston, a young dragon in search of his missing father, quickly turns into an epic journey where Eliana must navigate a kingdom on the brink of disaster.

As the story unfolds, Eliana and Winston uncover a world filled with secrets, ancient treasures, and a prophecy that could change the fate of dragons and humans alike. With the kingdom’s precious treasure missing and the Overking’s demands growing more dangerous by the day, Eliana’s courage and newfound magical gifts are put to the ultimate test. But it’s not just the stakes that make this series compelling—it’s the bond between Eliana and Winston, two unlikely companions learning the true meaning of trust, loyalty, and friendship.

In the second book, True Treasure, the stakes escalate as rumors of dragon sightings stoke fears across the kingdom. The Overking’s decree to destroy all dragons sends Eliana on a race against time to prevent a massacre. Along the way, she uncovers deeper mysteries, realizing that treasure isn’t always what it seems, and some treasures—like the lives of dragons—are worth more than gold.

With lush world-building, a cast of memorable characters, and heart-pounding adventure, The Dragon and the Girl offers a unique take on dragon lore, blending themes of magic, friendship, and the courage to fight for what’s right. As Eliana grows from a girl with a gift into a true Dragon Speaker, readers are invited into a world where every twist and turn is filled with enchantment and danger—and where the most valuable treasures are often the hardest to find.

Perfect for readers who crave epic fantasy filled with heart and heroism, this series is a journey worth taking, with dragons, adventure, and magic around every corner.
