Those roots shape her writing, where moon-eating serpents, tropical storms, and maritime traditions find their place alongside political intrigue and intimate human conflict. Before becoming an author, she worked in electoral management and women’s rights. These experiences sharpened her sense for power struggles and the quiet resilience of ordinary people, themes that echo through her novels.

Her characters are rarely neat heroes. Instead, they stumble, rage, and fall in love at the worst possible moments, embodying what Guanzon once called her fascination with “hot messes and the morally gray losers who love them.” That honesty, mixed with lyrical prose and an eye for cultural detail, has drawn readers across the globe.

Today she lives in Metro Manila, often writing with a cat named Darth Pancakes trying to commandeer her keyboard, and turtles named Dumpling and Potato Chip patrolling nearby. When she is not deep in fictional battles or tangled romances, she is likely sketching out Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, plotting over iced coffee, or tending to her succulents.
