The Catalyst of a Dark Crown
“She will end us all if I try. No one has that kind of strength."
“You do,” he said, this hand soft against my cheek even if his eyes were like death. “I will never leave you, Raynn. I will always be with you, until the end.”
THE QUEEN IS A TYRANT
Raynn knows she is a tyrant because it was the Queen who locked her away after her Catalyst, the other half to her magic, died. One day she was a powerful heir to the throne, the next, a worthless Dri locked away and guarded by a faceless man who is not allowed to speak.
Just as Raynn is not allowed to speak.
To speak, to challenge the Queen, would surely mean death, especially when Raynn starts unraveling all that the Queen is truly doing, and exactly why she is locked away in her gilded prison.
Raynn was told it was the only place for a princess without magic, as without a Catalyst she could not access hers.
It was just another lie.
River knows the queen is a tyrant because she was the one who killed his sister, who destroyed the world and turned it to ash. He saw it all in the world his sister was left in, the world that was lined with Fae who were only trained to kill, trained to hunt his kind down and end those like him: Those with untamed magic.
River may be the only one who knows what is coming, the only one who knows what the Queen truly is. He will stop at nothing to be the one to end her, to avenge what she did to his sister.
After he kills the wrong person on the wrong dirt road, however, finishing his quest to end the Queen becomes much more dire.
He cannot do it alone.
River must find Raynn and convince her of her role in the world that is coming. Convince her that it is up to her to stop the powerful Queen before time runs out.
Before she finds them and ends them both.
