When Magnolia Cove Middle School’s band program is threatened, I do what any dedicated teacher would do: drag a snow cone cart on the beach and declare war on bad budgets. My unexpected opponent? Grant Pierce, whose gleaming magical ice cream cart and too-perfect swirls are stealing all my customers.

I need to save this program—it’s where kids find their rhythm, their voice, their magic. But with every spat and sideways glance, I find myself noticing more than Grant’s (infuriatingly) flawless sweets.
