The Witch's Mark and Others

by Dorothy Quick
The Witch's Mark and Others by Dorothy Quick
Unrated

As a teenager, Dorothy Quick (1896–1962) met the elderly Mark Twain on a translantic voyage and later wrote a memoir of the famous author. But Quick established herself as a prolific writer of mystery, horror, and fantasy fiction in her own right. This volume collects, for the first time, her tales of horror and the supernatural, most of them published in the pulp magazine Weird Tales. In these stories Quick reveals a gift for infusing her tales with romantic elements in the midst of the horrific scenario. Many of her horrors emerge from the historical past, whether it be ghosts from the Middle Ages or nature spirits from the dawn of time. Quick also wrote a great quantity of poetry, and this volume reprints her poems of fantasy and terror, where witches, vampires, and other baleful entities abound.
