Ian Loome

Ian Loome

Ian Loome (also writes as L. H. Thomson and Sam Powers) writes the kind of thrillers that feel like they've lived a life before landing in your hands — taut, restless, and always edged with hard-won experience. Raised between the quiet English village of Bierton and the turbulence of Angola during a communist regime, and later settling in Canada, Loome grew up in places where tension thrived under the surface. That early exposure to conflict and uncertainty shaped the pulse of his fiction, infusing every story with a sense of urgency and grit.

Before turning full-time to crime fiction and espionage thrillers, Loome carved out a career as a journalist, chasing stories across Ontario and Alberta. Covering everything from foreign affairs to celebrity interviews, he developed a sharp instinct for human motivation — a skill that now fuels the morally complex characters in his novels. Whether it's Bob Singleton of the Rogue Warrior series, a former CIA assassin grappling with the shadows of his past, or Liam Quinn, an ex-convict turned private investigator walking the crumbling streets of Philadelphia, Loome’s protagonists are never just heroes or villains; they're survivors of their own messy histories.

Writing with an eye for suspense and a deep empathy for flawed souls, Loome built his early catalog under the pen names L.H. Thomson and Sam Powers before stepping forward under his own name. His work resonates with readers who crave thrillers that don’t just race to the end, but linger in the grey spaces where right and wrong blur.

Living with Asperger’s and ADHD, Loome brings a distinctive, finely attuned voice to every story he writes. When he's not building intricate plots or crafting sharp dialogue, he’s likely playing blues guitar — another outlet for the raw emotion that colors his fiction. Today, he lives in Canada with his partner, Lori, continuing to deliver gripping, atmospheric novels that reward readers who like their thrillers intelligent, fast-moving, and just a little dangerous.
