For generations, the Pale swallowed cities, roads, farms, and graves. Monsters crawled out of it. Lamplighters walked into it anyway, carrying fire where no sane man would go.

Now Mars knows the truth.

The Wave wasn't an accident. The Pale wasn't a storm. Something made it. Something kept it fed. And if it isn't stopped, every peak city left above the drowning light will sink beneath the white.

Tahama has walls, guns, knights, mages, and prayers. None of it will be enough.

Mars has a lamp, a crew, and the kind of experience a man only gets by surviving jobs that should've killed him twice. He knows what waits below. He knows the cost. There's only danger below.

He goes anyway.
