A missing woman. A forgotten grave. And a corpse in the wrong place.

After a disastrous series of events, Hale Hastings is still a fugitive from the FBI. But that’s not going to stop her from doing her job. Namely, opening a cold case charity with her friend and business partner, private investigator Kenna Cavanaugh.

And the first case they stumble upon is the four-year-old disappearance of a local woman that doesn’t add up.

Everyone in the town of Bend thinks they already know the truth. The missing woman’s husband is the prime suspect, but with no evidence to prove it, the case has long since gone cold.

But Hale has become an expert at spotting the details everyone else misses. When a routine review of the case uncovers a disturbing inconsistency, Hale and Kenna realize someone has been disturbing the dead for years. As they peel back layer after layer of carefully buried secrets, they uncover a pattern that stretches far beyond a single missing person.
