Occult Detective
Fiction featuring Occult or Psychic Detectives uses many of the tropes found in Crime Fiction but instead of investigating conventional criminals they deal with cases involving ghosts, vampires, the undead or other supernatural elements. The occult detective may have psychic or magical powers of their own but this is not always the case.
Some of the best know Occult Detectives are John Silence by Algernon Blackwood, Flaxman Low by E. and H. Heron and Thomas Carnacki by William Hope Hodgson
Sherlock Holmes has also appeared in numerous pastiches where he does battle with unworldly forces but the original stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle were strictly regular Crime Fiction despite the investigators unorthodox approach.
