Magic has a price in Avarell, and some debts are paid in blood.
Lynette Noni's Shadow Reaper series unfolds in a city where forbidden magic, ancient secrets and dangerous bargains lurk beneath the surface. At its centre is seventeen-year-old Viridia Solace, a reaper hunter whose carefully controlled life begins to unravel when vengeance draws her into an alliance she never intended to make. The enemy she is forced to trust may be the very person capable of destroying everything she has sworn to protect.
As Viridia is pulled deeper into Avarell's hidden conflicts, the boundaries between hunter and hunted, loyalty and betrayal, begin to blur. Her journey brings together deadly magic, political intrigue, found family and a slow-burning enemies-to-lovers romance, while each revelation raises new questions about who can be trusted and what the characters are willing to sacrifice.
The series combines dark young adult fantasy with fast-moving adventure and an atmosphere of constant uncertainty. Beneath its magical battles and dangerous missions is a more personal story about grief, vengeance, identity and the difficult choice between holding on to the past and forging a different future.
With its forbidden magic, morally complicated characters and escalating tension, Shadow Reaper continues Noni's fascination with placing young protagonists in worlds where survival is never as simple as defeating the obvious enemy. The result is a fantasy series built around secrets and shifting loyalties, where even an alliance made for survival can become something far more dangerous.
