A City in the North
Toyon was a Terran, powerful in his own sector of the galaxy, but here on the planet of Hoep-Hanninah he was a tourist who did not speak the language. Toyon was a brilliant man but to the ape like expresionless natives of this planet, he was a threat Toyon had a dream he was determined to realize; to travel to the ruined city in the north and explore it. But the Hanninah were as determined to thwart him; for in the path of his exploration to the ruins lay the secret of their survival.

Marta Randall (born 1948) is a science fiction writer.
In addition to writing numerous science fiction novels and short fiction, Marta Randall has edited the New Dimensions science fiction anthology series, and Nebula Awards 19.
Marta Randall has taught science fiction writing at the Clarion East and Clarion West writing workshops, UC Berkeley extension, Portland State University, and at private workshops. From 1981 through 1984, she served first as Vice-President and later the first female President of the Science Fiction Writers of America.
