The United States of Lacey's day has imposed law and order with cameras that scan every citizen, waking or asleep, and computers that watch the images for any hint of crime.

Then it's Lacey's turn.

He knows what mercy is, and pity; and he knows he doesn't have any, even for himself.

But things weren't really that bad, at least not for Lacey – and his friends.
