The Tent City
In Ruin, Book One: The Tent City, we learn the ruins represent a dead part of the world, destroyed by nuclear war. Only a few million people remain on the planet. The United States no longer exists, and in the lands east of the Mississippi, the Wolf People are in control, a nomadic tent-dwelling group of proud warriors who encompass the qualities both of the Native American aboriginals who once dwelt there, and the ancient Mongols. Death is a constant companion. The Chieftain’s son, Deke, as he turns 13, participates in a time-honored ritual in which he risks death to prove his manhood. His first love, Andara, provides for some intense romantic, spiritual, and erotic encounters. He is challenged to harness and use his growing esper (E.S.P.) abilities wisely, skills that permit him to read minds, influence the thoughts of others, and see the future. It’s a coming-of-age story in a world of mystery and danger, in a spiritual continuum that challenges its inhabitants to transcend risks and difficulties which sentence humans to strenuous and short life spans.
