Singularity gathers award-winning writer Melanie Tem’s most important short fiction, highlighting her diversity and mastery of her art. The sixty stories collected here range from “Sitting with the Driver,” a western with a dark woman at its center, to “Little Shit,” a contemporary tale of a woman who uses her deceptive appearance and psychic power to trap those who prey on the helpless.
Melanie Tem wrote eleven novels on her own, plus two in collaboration with Nancy Holder and two more with her husband, Steve Rasnic Tem. She also wrote dozens of short stories, plus plays and poetry. Her first book, Prodigal, won the Bram Stoker Award for best first novel.
Written in collaboration with Steve Rasnic Tem, the story “The Man on the Ceiling” also received the World Fantasy Award, while the novel length version of The Man on the Ceiling was a finalist for the Shirley Jackson Award. Melanie Tem’s work has also received the International Horror Guild and British Fantasy Awards.
Limited to 300 copies for sale, and signed by Jessica Fortner and Caitlín Kiernan, over 800 pages, this is all of Melanie Tem’s horror fiction, and will be recognized as a landmark publication.

Melanie Tem (1949-2015) was an American horror and dark fantasy author.
Melanie Kubachko grew up in Saegertown, Pennsylvania. She attended Allegheny College as an undergrad, and earned her master’s in social work at the University of Denver in Colorado.
She married Steve Rasnic and the couple took the joint surname Tem. She developed breast cancer in 1997. In 2013, it recurred, and metastasized to her bones, bone marrow, and organs. She died at age 65 on February 9, 2015. She is survived by her husband, Steve Rasnic Tem, four children and six grandchildren.
