The invitation arrived in a black envelope with a warning: once I entered, names would be erased, and what formed inside wouldn’t be undone.

No sender. No explanation. Just rules, a time, and a symbol for a secret society I’d never heard of.

I wasn’t looking for danger. I just wanted one man who wasn’t like the rest. Instead, The Broken Ones offered me three, and reduced their names to numbers.

They were Five, Seven, and Nine.

I never saw their faces. I had no idea who they were beyond the masks. All I knew was they moved around me like they knew me better than I knew myself.

Five was controlled and unnerving with a soft touch.

Seven was confident. Everything he did seemed planned and perfect.

Nine was rough. He was forceful, and “no” didn’t exist in his world.

The rules said anonymity would prevent attachment.

They were wrong.

When the masks finally came off, the truth hit harder than any rule they’d broken.

I knew these men.

And the question that terrified me most wasn’t what they’d done…
