He's Bardcore! (The Trials of Bardly Whitsend #4) by Kevin Hess
Unrated

The demon couriers' new careers back in Hell mean that Jestoria can breathe - for now. That is, until a demon stranger busts into Bardly's new office on the second floor of The Rusty Goat Inn, shouting and swearing and talking about kicking demon backside all up and down the River Styx. He's accompanied by a slick businessdemon and an accomplice, and Bardly soon learns that the owner of a demon gladiator league popular in the multiverse, and the champion, have set their sights on Jestoria for a series of events!

Mr. Whiskers can't wait to get in on the action, while Princess Penelope is extremely hesitant to approve gladiator fights in Her Highness's kingdom - that is, until she finds out that these aren't fights to the death, but only a contest to pin the other gladiator's shoulders down for the count of three! Meanwhile, Vex Malifer, the owner of the gladiator federation, enlists Bardly to represent Jestoria as a local celebrity talent, and Drakkar as the special guest commentator!

However, there's trouble coming, and it's coming fast! To begin with, the gamblers are stinging from their loss on the eggball match - and they're back. Determined to lay a bet on the gladiator fights, they place a large wager with the criminal underground of the Fae Kingdom, the dangerous Faemily! What's worse, the Faemily has its sights set on Bardly, when they accuse him of illegal perfume trafficking in giving a gift of reconciliation to the faerie courier's union! But Bardly's worst fears are confirmed when he realizes that they're not targeting him - they're targeting Elphyra!

Meanwhile, Bardly can't help but root for a down-on-his-luck gladiator, Gruff Greenhorn, who's never won a match. As it happens, Gruff is soon to retire from being a gladiator, and he's been given one last shot at glory when he's set to team with another one of the veterans against the champions, brothers Bruticon and Brimstone Blazebringer. But that means standing in Gruff's corner for the match. And if there's one thing that the Faemily won't stand for, it's outside interference when it comes to their legitimate business transactions!
