The Pan Book of Horror Stories
First publish in 1959 Pan launched a series of books that were to delight and disgust - sometimes even on the same page – readers for thirty years. From classics in the genre to scraping-the-barrel nastiness, the Pan Books of Horror had them all and they continue to be a major influence in published anthologies to the present day, the first book in the series was reissued in 2010 with an introduction by Johnny Mains.

Johnny Mains
Johnny Mains is a British Fantasy Award-winning editor and genre researcher. He was Project Editor on the 2010 re-issue of The Pan Book of Horror Stories, created the critically acclaimed series Dead Funny: Horror Stories by Comedians (co-edited with Robin Ince) and has spent the last five years deep in the archives, uncovering ‘lost’ stories by notable authors such as Edith Nesbit, Algernon Blackwood, Oscar Cook and Daphne Du Maurier, among others.
Pan Book of Horror Stories
The Pan Book of Horror Stories was a British paperback series of short horror story anthologies published by Pan Books Ltd. The series ran to thirty volumes, the first published in 1959.
