Princess Liliwen “Winnie” curates a mask of perfection to protect a secret that, if discovered, may turn her people against her. That is her biggest worry until her father dies and everything falls apart. Winnie finds herself lost and abandoned in the woods by the very huntsman she once helped. She wants to trust the brooding and attractive Knox, but every time she is alone with him she seems to just barely avoid death at his hands. Unsure who is truly the one behind her assassination attempts, Winnie is determined to find out and take back her kingdom.

When Knox comes to the castle in search of his sister, he discovers Alice is not the only servant who has gone missing. While looking for clues, he finds a princess with a mysterious wasting disease and a cruel queen. As his feelings grow towards the enchanting princess he can never have, he finds himself forced to choose between Winnie’s life and the very life he set out to save.
