The rescue of his Party member could lead to something even more significant…

After arriving in an alternate timeline with the intention of getting his Party member, Vintrella, back from the Spirit Sentinel Faction, Bax disturbs a hornet’s nest of politics and power and he has no intention of getting involved. Unfortunately for him, the leadership behind the Faction who took Vintrella aren’t likely to let their captive go after what Bax did to one of their Elite Masters, and they hatch a plan to trap and kill the powerful Keeper once he travels to the Faction’s capital.

But Bax isn’t just some random Mercenary looking to stir up trouble. With the help of Ardriene, a local Magitech Engineer, Bax isn’t going to let anything stand in his way of getting Vintrella back from the clutches of those that would mean her harm.

What none of them realize, though, is that what starts as a relatively minor confrontation between a Faction and one individual will explode into a conflict that won’t just spread globally, but throughout the entire Retrogression System universe. With everyone other than his only friends seemingly against him, the final Keeper within both timelines will have to pull out all the stops to ensure he survives what is coming.

This story contains an overpowered main character, LitRPG progression mechanics and stats, and isekai/portal fantasy elements. Contains no sexual content or harems.

Jonathan Brooks

Jonathan Brooks

In the fast-evolving realm of LitRPG and Dungeon Core fiction, few names have carved out territory as boldly—or as prolifically—as Jonathan Brooks. Known for weaving complex magic systems with the logic of game mechanics, Brooks has become a touchstone for readers who crave fantasy grounded in strategy, growth, and immersive world-building.

It all began with Dungeon Player in 2017, a debut that hinted at the intricate worlds and evolving systems that would become his signature. But Brooks didn’t stop there. He’s since written more than 70 novels, building expansive series like Dungeon Crafting, Magical Fusion, and Earthen Contenders, each exploring what it means to level up—whether as a character, a dungeon, or a sentient core learning how to survive in hostile worlds. His latest venture, The Labyrinth World series, continues this evolution with a fresh spin on multiverse mechanics and layered storytelling.

What sets his work apart isn’t just the volume—it’s the detail. Fans often point to his grasp of systems thinking, the way he breaks down magical development or skill trees with the precision of a game designer. But beneath the stat sheets and XP bars lies something more: characters grappling with identity, purpose, and consequence. His heroes don’t just gain power—they grow into it, often painfully.

Brooks writes from a place of deep familiarity with gaming culture, but also with a surprising emotional depth for a genre often rooted in mechanics. It’s not uncommon for readers to come for the dungeon crawls and stay for the moral dilemmas and unexpected moments of humanity.

Though much of Jonathan’s personal life remains intentionally off-grid, his interaction with fans through platforms like Patreon reveals a writer who’s both accessible and committed. He frequently shares updates, exclusive content, and invites feedback—an approach that mirrors the community-driven spirit of the genres he writes in.

For anyone seeking stories where numbers matter, choices have weight, and the world itself is a character—Jonathan Brooks continues to deliver, not with fanfare, but with the steady, deliberate grind of someone who knows the value of each level earned.
