I read Suzanne's previous books and was impressed - especially with The Other Me (not SFF, so can't find that on this site). So when a chance came for me to read her new book, I Heart Robot, as an ARC, I snatched it and started to read it as soon as possible. Unfortunately I couldn't finish it at one sitting, as I had to go to work, but this is that kind of a book! What this isn't: a run-of-the-mill YA dystopian romance with a pretty girl who has to choose between her two handsome suitors. Yeah, there is some romance in the air, but they are sixteen so what do you expect? So this suits both - if you like romance and if you don't! But that is not the point of this book. This is a book that challenges you to think what makes us human. What it is to be an outsider. And what would you do, if you were oppressed and threatened: Would you turn to violence or try more peaceful approach? Suzanne writes characters really well. Her two narrators, Tyri and Quinn, both felt real. They were teenagers in a tough situation. Not only is their lives changing, but the whole world as they know it is changing. The relations between robots and humans are getting tense in the futuristic Scandinavian setting, somewhere Sweden used to be. Tyri and Quinn are both musicians, they love music and it makes them feel alive, so they both want to make a career out of it. Even when we know that Quinn is an android, he really wants to be as human as possible, reminding me of dear Data of Star Trek : TNG. Understanding humans, understanding ourselves - this is what this book left me wondering. How can we do this and still be happy? And if we are happy with who we are, is the society around us going to accept that? Can we live in peace and accept differences?

I really liked de Bodard's short stories and decided to try this fantasy / mystery book as well. It was fascinating, but quite not as good as the short stories. Aztec names and a foreign mythology made this both interesting and hard to read. If you want to try something new, this is the book for you. I don't yet know if I'll read the 2 other Obsidian and blood -books. Perhaps, if there is nothing more interesting to read.

I want to read everything Kelley Armstrong writes. I was excited to hear that she had begun new series, even though I love the Women of the Underworld. To my surprise, in our library system these were not in Fantasy, but Thrillers. And yes, the fantasy content was quite small, but it definitely was there. You might like to check your shelving! I think the big picture behind all of the schemes is the interesting one - I didn't care so much of the main characters, the things that have happened at the background is the thing that keeps me looking forward to the part 2!

This was a tough book to read. It had a heavy theme: guilt. How would you feel, if you thought you might have caused the death of a friend? Kyle is moving between realities - in the other, the dead friend is his boyfriend Danny and in the other, their mutual friend Shira. Is this caused by the mystical planet Obscura which has appeared to the sky? I really liked the way this book was written. The differences in realities made this very interesting read. And even if I couldn't quite say I liked Kyle, I really hoped all the best for him.

I'm glad I read the great Obscura burning first, as the first part of the book wasn't to my liking. It was too noir-detective story to my taste. When the second part began, I was totally drawn to the story - I really liked this part with the soldier life and the rebel camp. After finding out who Cyrus really was, the ending was interesting as well, even if we came back to the same setting than in the beginning. I can see why the structure is like it is, but can't help to wonder if having only two parts would make it even more readable. Recommended.

I read the Finnish translation. This is part of the Fallen Angel -series and I thought this was better than the second book. The couple that came together in this book were likable characters and the annoying baddie demon was in a smaller role, I think. I guess I'm going to continue with the series, because these are so easy to read.

After this, I decided always to read only the short stories from the authors I care about. So after I had read like half of the book and really didn't want to continue with it, but there still was this Toby Daye story, once I just got past a few others... Finally I just read that and let the rest be. Charlaine Harris - Sookie story, it was meh, a bit boring even. Victor Gischler - the story was funny. Patricia Briggs - this was from the Mercy universe and I liked it, but have forgotten most of it already. Rochelle Krich - way too scary for me! Graham & Grady - forgotten already. Melissa Marr - interesting story, scary ending. Seanan McGuire - Toby tries to get Wintergreen accept her. Interesting short, liked it.

Second book about the grave witch Alex Graft. In this one, Alex finds out she is more than just a grave witch and a fae. Bummer! Why do they always need to be so special? Wouldn't just a bit of magic be enough for a character sometimes? Guess there is a bigger plot coming. I might read more, if there is nothing else on my list.

I only read this because I've read all the previous books and wanted to finish the series. Blah blah blah blah is my honest opinion of this book. Harris brings like all the people that are still alive to make a cameo and then they go away and do nothing to the plot. I really liked the first Sookie-books, but unfortunately as they got worse. I think I'll take the True Blood -series as canon from now on. Even if I don't know how they finish, it can't be worse than this.

This is an anthology and there are four stories: Charlaine Harris's The Britlingens Go to Hell Nalini Singh's Angels' Judgment Ilona Andrews's Magic Mourns Meljean Brook's Blind Spot I only read Harris's and Andrews's stories, because I am not familiar with Singh's and Brook's series and not going to read those. Harris's story has nothing to do with Sookie Stackhouse, and it was boring as... hell. In Goodreads this is numbered as 9.2 in the Sookie-series, but I have no idea why. Guess I've missed some minor detail but I don't care. I did like Andrews's, because Andrea and Raphael are such a great couple. I like Andrews's Kate Daniels -series and intend to read more of her (their) work.

Wen Spencer has written a fun romp about a girl that finds out everything she writes is comes true. Mixed with Japanese legends & Japanese setting - most of the book takes place in either Kyoto or Osaka - this is something fun for those who usually read only manga.

This book won the Hugo? For some reason, I expect books that win prizes like that to be something mindblowing. Guess what: this wasn't. Hannu Rajaniemi's book was, for example, even if I only understood half of it. So this was something of a funny adventure / metastory, somewhat likable characters, easy to read, but I didn't find it to be anything special. Old man's war had ideas and it was a better book imho.

My friend recommended this to me in the spring and few weeks ago I needed something to read and found this from my library. So. Okayish, did like, will probably read the sequel at some point. Original magic system, liked the heroine.

I really enjoyed reading this story, it was quite long, but held my interest well. The relationship between Bast and Kvothe is intriguing :) Wish we'd hear more about now instead of memories... I think there must be a reason for all the detours Kvothe takes to learn skills he'll probably need in the final book! I'm glad I read the first one again before reading this, so the beginning was fresh in my mind. And now we wait for the part 3! Looking forward to it.

I really liked getting to know the history of Clayton and Jeremy and the Pack :) Last story about Jeremy and Jaime was a bit meh, but otherwise great collection.

Light mindless fluffy fun, with some feminist issues added. I think it was really unrealistic in some points but hey I wasn't expecting much else... Some of the jokes made me laugh and think about Twain's A Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur's Court. But I don't think I'll be reading more of the Goddess summoning series unless I find myself in the same situation as I was when I picked this up - in a library, needing something to read right now and couldn't find anything else even remotely interesting.

I wish the Bird Keeper -letters would have been left out. Not enough relevant information regarding to the main plot in them. Otherwise up to the usual Hobb-standard. Looking forward to the final book of the series.

I think a stricter editor is needed! Too long and too much repetition. But enjoyed it anyway :) Reading these makes you forget your own little problems as their problems are so much bigger and have so much more DRAMA! (And as I'm in a happy relationship I can't say I'm having these problems.)

Ok, I cheated - only read the three short stories I hadn't read before. Fairy dust - it was nice to get to know a bit more of Claude and Claudine. Dracula night - read from Many bloody returns, didn't care much about this one. One word answer - in which I finally found out what happened to Hadley. I think it was very poorly explained in the Definitely dead. Ok. Lucky - Sookie and Amanda play detectives. Nothing special here. I think the way the vampire Dustin was handled was poor. We are reading this because we like vampire literature, right? And then he was just whisked away and never heard again. (Correct me if he shows up in the books at some point, but I can't remember.) Gift wrap - Sookie gets a Christmas gift from fairy grandpa. Already read this from Wolfsbane and mistletoe. I wonder what Sookie was thinking in this one? She has been thinking about herself as a good girl who doesn't sleep with strangers...

I'm giving this book four stars because I really liked the short story in it. Also there were interesting interviews of Ms. Harris and Mr. Ball. I think the most interesting part in Ms. Harris's interview was that she revealed she has an agenda hidden in the Sookie books and after the short story I think I know what it is and I approve.

I recommend this to all those who are fans of the Robin Hobb's Farseer series. If you are not familiar with those, read them first. This is a nice little tale telling an important piece of history of the Six Duchies.

Conclusion of the Rain Wild Chronicles. I admit that at first this series felt bit of a let down. New characters that you didn't care about and were more interested of the cameos of the old favourites. But the characters grew on you. They started being important to you and found their own voice. That is what the Hobb books are about - becoming the person you were meant to become. Growth. Finding your own path, often in a hard way. And you started laughing and crying with them. I did both while reading this book.

Liked the story of Quinn and Blaylock, but didn't like the new characters. All the series must end at some point, but it looks like the next books are going to be about Xcor, Trez, Allair or whatever his name... Even if the mansion is big, you can't expect everyone to move in at some point!

Last book of the Darkness Rising -trilogy. Armstrong is one of my favourite authors and always nice to read. Visited Vancouver earlier this year and it was nice to know a bit about the places where things took place. Made me remember the visit :D These YA books take place in the same universe than her Women of the Otherworld -books, so recommended if you like those but don't usually read YA. Might run into some familiar names :)

Book five of the Kate Daniels -series. As the previous ones, this was fast and easy to read. Now that I try to remember what happened, it is surprisingly hard. Read it, enjoy while it lasts and then forget... I like most of the characters. I hope Rafael comes back in the next book ;)

I needed a book to read while travelling. I picked this up, but couldn't finish. The hero was so demanding and condescending towards the heroine, that I couldn't deal with it. 50 shades, meet vampires. When the heroine asked the "hero" to stop when they were having sex and he didn't, that was the last straw for me.

New Moon was way better than Twilight. Why? Because Edward Cullen wasn't there for the most of the book. Give me Jacob Black any day! Edward, being oh so perfect, is boring beyond words. Jake has issues, so he is more interesting as a character. I have to admit that Meyer knows something about emotions and writes easily readable yarns. But why is everyone into Edward Cullen? I want Jacob Black fan club!

If I was 12 I might have liked it. Now - mostly having fun with the poor writing and bland characters! The only thing she got right is the feeling a girl haves for her first crush - but I had that at 10 or something, not at 16 or 17 :D I do understand WHY this sells - who didn't want a beautiful, mysterious boyfriend in their teens?

Really fun stuff about the eternal battle between the Light and the Dark. Nothing too heavy, just plain good story telling. I laughed out loud several times to the small jokes in the stories. The book isn't a one big story but three stories about Anton's life. Recommended if you're looking for plain fun pleasure reading. (And if you want more depth you can always participate in more detail to the eternal debate between Light and Dark.)

You can't help liking Sunshine. Even if her thoughts are sometimes a real info dump, this is a book you want to finish quickly. Secondary characters are fun too, and having a librarian in the crowd is a big plus. I would like to hear more about what happens / has happened, hope this won't be the only novel set to this world but she'll write more of Sunshine and her friends.

Jant is one of the best characters ever. Right in the same league with Robin Hobb's Fitz and Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan. He is so real with his flaws that you can't help liking him. And the rest of the book - oh, it's good too. Recommended.
