I remember the first time I had ever heard of this story was from the 1993 animated film. I was only a few years old at the time, but what I saw left a huge impression on me about Halloween. Now, years later with the passing of Ray Bradbury, I wanted to do something to honor this man I knew so little about (and who had only read his novel, "Fahrenheit 451). I decided to read another one of his books, but where to begin? I thought why not his very first book, but I couldn't seem to find it anywhere. And just yesterday, while I was at library, I found "The Halloween Tree," on display and what do you know it was by Ray Bradbury. Upon reading the summary of the book, I remembered the 1993 animated movie and thought, "Ray Bradbury made an impact on me before I even knew how to read, let alone take an interest in it." I apologize for rambling about how I came to read this book, but I felt compelled to write it. So, I'll give my take on the book. For anyone who loves Halloween or enjoys Bradbury's books, you'll want to give this book a chance. If not, try the animated film. Both, present Halloween throughout the ages in different forms, as seen through the eyes of children on an adventure to save their friend. All in all, an adventure across time to learn and ultimately save a friend is a good enough book for me to read.
Truly an amazing book on adventure, love, friendship, and fantasy. I first read this book when I was a kid and was my favorite of all E.B. White's books. The story is simple and easy to read with likeable characters. Definitely a good book for kids.
