Gaea invites humans with incurable ailments to apply for miracles; few are accepted. Among the successful applicants, transported to Gaea to prove their worthiness, are Chris Major, whose unpredictable fugue states make him a menace to society, and Robin the Nine-Fingered, a courageous, naive, epileptic young witch from a lesbian satellite colony.
