The Second Generation
Years have passed since the end of the War of the Lance. The people of Ansalon have rebuilt their lives, their houses, their families. The Companions of the Lance, too, have returned to their homes, raising children and putting the days of their heroic deeds behind them.
But peace on Krynn comes at a price. The forces of darkness are ever vigilant, searching for ways to erode the balance of power and take control. When subtle changes begin to permeate the fragile peace, new lives are drawn into the web of fate woven around all the races. The time has come to pass the sword – or the staff – to the children of the Lance.
They are the Second Generation.
This book of five novellas bridges the gap between the Chronicles and Legends trilogies and Dragons of Summer Flame. While detailing their adventures, The Second Generation also sets up key events and characters in future Dragonlance novels.
Margaret Weis
Margaret Weis (born 1948 in Independence, Missouri) is an American fantasy novelist who, along with Tracy Hickman, is one of the original creators of the Dragonlance game world and has written numerous novels and short stories set in fantastic worlds.
Dragonlance
Dragonlance is a rich fantasy universe initially crafted by Laura and Tracy Hickman, then expanded by Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis. The concept was born during a car ride to a job application at TSR, Inc., where Tracy Hickman later teamed up with Weis. Together, they developed a series of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) adventures, which inspired a wide array of novels, game modules, and related products.
In 1984, TSR released the first novel, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, marking the start of the Chronicles trilogy and establishing the Dragonlance series. This core trilogy, written by Hickman and Weis, introduced the world of Krynn, characterized by its elaborate history spanning five ages. Most stories are set during the fourth age, The Age of Despair, while the fifth age, The Age of Mortals, began in February 2009.
